Class 7 (10/20-10/26)

Lecture 7 Project Phases

The lecturer uses the double diamond structure of flare and focus, or in this instance diverging and converging. This one has specific steps and methods to guide the ideation process.

While this is geared towards design, breaking things into smaller pieces is an applicable method for a lot of things in life. Something as simple as cleaning the house is more manageable as a series of small tasks, instead of one large project.

Lecture 7A Literature Reviews

Scott McCloud, Understanding Comics Ch 4 & 6

One point the author makes is the emphasis on words and pictures as a storytelling technique. Similarly, there's a rise in movies and television with subtitles. I prefer it in comics because you can take as much time as you need to move your eyes around the page. I've also purchased comics for language learning. The small blocks of texts and accompanying imagery were ideal.

Iterate: Ten Lessons in Design and Failure, Ch 3

I'm finding this weeks reading to be very incidentally philosophical. In life and in design, to consider too long is unproductive. It's better to be decisive, and make a mistake and learn from it.
